dove mi trovo : Introduction - Enviroment - Sport
Sport
Sport at Fanano means first and foremost contact with nature: it means savouring the harsh, sweet beauty of the mountains, and rich silences of the forests and meadows.
Skiing - Snowboarding
Fanano, Sestola., Montecreto and Riolunato combine to form the Cimone Winter Sports Consortium, creating a vast skiing district served by modern chair-lifts, with 50 km of downhill runs, all accessible with a single ski pass.. The variety and efficiency of the services offered, which have provided the basis for quality certification under the UNI EN ISO 9002 standards, make Cimone the leading resort in the Emilia and Romagna Apennines. Also available are cross-country skiing, off-track excursions and dog-sleighing. Fanano’s own ski centre, at Cimoncino, is easy accessible from the town centre by the road through Canevare.
Cimone also offers a Snow Park at Pian Cavallaio with a specialist snowboarding area, equipped with all the latest materials and training structures: Funboxes, Gaps and Quarters of various sizes, Handrails, permanent BoarderCross track with Waves, parabolic Banks, Jumps, Pro Jumps and Halfpipes.
Walking – Trekking – Orienteering – Horse-Riding and Trekking
The Fanano area offers opportunity for these activities at any age; as well as demanding trails and paths for the fittest and most experienced walkers and riders, there are also much less strenuous tracks, still offering access to areas of great natural beauty. The specialist sports Associations and Groups also offer themed walks on topics of particular environmental and cultural interest, with guides or special activities en route and at various altitudes. These are available above all in spring-summer, but also in autumn and even in winter for the most adventurous.
Mountain biking
This sport has become very popular of recent years at all altitudes in the Apennines, along routes of environmental interest. Fanano has several waymarked circular routes, some of them offering links to other areas around the slopes of Mount Cimone, such as the tough 45 km “Cimone Loop”, which runs through the Fanano, Sestola, Montecreto and Riolunato districts. There are also plenty of downhill and free-ride trails.
Fishing
There are two trout fishing pools open to the public near Fanano, one on the banks of the Leo below the town and the other near Ospitale.
Canoeing
The fast-flowing rivers that rush down from the mountains and the relatively calmer waters of the Leo below Fanano are ideal for this sport, in direct contact with the purity of the water.
Trial Motorcycling
Due to its high environmental impact, this sport is only permitted on the recently-created permanent trial-bike course.
Hang-Gliding – Para-Gliding
Fanano offers landing sites linked to the take-off points in the highest parts of its municipal area and near Sestola.
Ice-Roller Skating Rink
Fanano’s full-sized skating rink, in the centre of the town, is in operation for ice-skating during the winter and for roller-skating in summer.
The Fanano area also offers a wide range of sports facilities: 1 heated outdoor swimming-pool with state-of-the-art water treatment system and attractive grassy sunbathing area; 3 football fields, two at the Lotta Sports Centre and one at Trentino; one nationally-affiliated Tennis Centre with 3 courts, one of them indoor and heated; 8 “bocce” bowls courts; 1 multipurpose gym equipped for volleyball, basketball, 5-a-side football and martial arts, and last but not least the “treppi” outdoor alleys where the traditional “ruzzola” and “ruzzolone” energetic disc-rolling sports are played.
